| | | | THIS IS THE BOOK EVERY SERIOUS BEATLES COLLECTORS WERE WAITING SINCE YEARS If it is true that here have been upwards
of 50,000 books written on the Beatles,
then this 1331glossy page tome(s) out
of Germany has most likely shot to the
top of the list for all inclusiveness.
For Beatle record collectors, it is as
close to "all here," as all here could be,
and the two volumes housed in a
attractive box weigh in at about 20lbs.
This is a complete discography of the
Beatles records from the UK, USA,
Canada, Israel, Germany, Austria,
Switzerland, USSR and some former
Soviet Republics with 4000 photos.
Also supplied are some new, colour
splashed/psychedelic Beatles
postcards, and of some note to the
completist Fabs' finders, a 45rpm
single of the Beatles-with Pete Best on
drums-grinding out two previously
unreleased tracks, circa 1961 in
Germany with Tony Sheridan.
The text of these volumes, by 40 year
Beatle collector Alex Bagirov, is some
of the most detailed on Beatle releases
that I have ever laid eyes upon.
Besides having (mostly) excellent
colour reproductions of Fab Four vinyl,
picture sleeves and album covers from
around the world, Bagirov also
provides a "Note To The Collector"
feature for each entry supplying details
on the release, as well as a current
value and a "what to watch for."
Bagirov writes that the first "official"
European Beatles record, "The Beatles
Beat," on the Odeon label in 1965 is the
second rarest out there, but warns that
in 2000 a pirate version was produced
that is virtually indistinguishable from
the original, that can go for as high as
2100 euros. Best to be sure, at that $.
So, for the North American fan and
collector, Volume Two with its focus on
Russian and former Soviet Republic
releases, may be the most fascinating.
Besides the regular LP releases-with
covers in Russian-there have also been
compilations and best-of's released
with rare photos and eclectic-to be
kind-collections of disparate tracks,
presented here.
As well as being a near orgasmic add
to any Beatle freaks book collection, I
can easily see this becoming one of the
higher academic reference works for
Beatles college credits, 101-909.
Also included in the set is a detailed list
of Beatles concert gigs, TV and radio
appearances and a "who's who" of
Beatle peeps, which is well annotated
